Would I miss out on these precious moments with them?

Dear Diary,

Another busy day in our house today! Thankfully, it was sunny so we got out for some fresh air when I took the kids to the park and we had a hot chocolate. I feel so grateful that I get to be there for the kids and spend quality time with them. It amazes me every day to see them growing up and constantly learning. They’re becoming kind and compassionate people. I wonder if this is something I’d be giving up if I went back to work or college full-time. Would I miss out on these precious moments with them? And would they miss out because of it? But surely it would still teach them and encourage them when they see me working. Sometimes I can picture myself doing my studies at home and showing the kids how to be serious about their schoolwork. I could show them that it’s possible to get a better job and build a better life for yourself. I’m motivated by these thoughts. If you don’t have motivation, you can’t do anything.

You need to motivate yourself and then you need to fill your mind with affirmation – something to lift you.

I wouldn’t have got to this point if I didn’t have help, though. If I didn’t have my wonderful support worker when I was homeless, I don’t know how I would’ve coped and been able to stay strong for the kids. I know now that change happens when you are willing to accept help.

I tried to relax by watching TV this evening, but I had to switch off the news – it was just too depressing. It makes me so angry to see the politicians and the government talking about policies and decisions that affect regular people’s lives – people like me – when they haven’t walked in my shoes. We need people in government who have life experience. They need to understand the experience of caring for somebody. They need to know what it feels like to struggle and be trapped by your circumstances because of decisions made by men in suits who never meet people like me.
